Swimming Gold Coast is committed to providing the best opportunities, events and recognition for all stakeholders in swimming on the Gold Coast. As such, we are excited to provide a great opportunity for SGC swimmers to have a voice and assist in guiding the management of SGC through the introduction of the SGC Youth Leadership Congress.

The SGC Youth Leadership Congress is being implemented to provide a select group of swimmers with the opportunity to provide valuable insight into the wants and needs of the swimmers in our region, how we can make their pathway better and more fulfilling; how we can increase the levels of swimmer retention throughout the teenage years; what they need to develop to their potential - aiming to make SGC facilitate the worlds best practice for grassroots swimming all the way through to elite High Performance swimming.

We are looking for:
-
Swimmers that have a passion for the sport of swimming
-
12 Male and 12 Female swimmers from across SGC (NOTE: if either gender quantity isn't met, it may be filled by the opposite gender).

Aged 13yrs and over as at 1st February 2023
-
Maximum of 2 Females and 2 Males from each club (at the start of the yearly program)

A minimum of 1 Multi-Class Swimmer in the Congress
-
Able to commit to 1 x 90min & 2 x 3-4 hour sessions throughout the year (Times to be developed with the swimmers to limit overall workload and stress regarding swimming, working and academics

Swimmers that have an opinion about the direction of swimming

In return, swimmers will:

Be able to add this great program to their resume and experiences - certification will be received at completion

3 personal development sessions to be run in conjunction with the congress meetings
-
Take pride in giving back to the sport and developing a better culture and overall environment for swimmers now and into the future

Gain valuable experience through undertaking a leadership role within our swimming community
-
Expand their support network to assist them on their swimming journey

Nominations
The SGC Youth Leadership Congress will be launched on Sunday 1st January 2023, with nominations closing on Sunday 22nd January 2023 at midnight. Congress members will be announced at the 2023 SGC Sprint Championships on Saturday 28th January at the Gold Coast Aquatic Centre.
Nominations are to be submitted through the below Jotform link and can be submitted by:

The swimmer themselves (preferably)

The swimmer's coach

The swimmer's parent
Aside from the regular information, nominator's will be asked to supply a short paragraph or 2 about why they would should be included into the Congress.

Dates of Meetings

First Introductory Meeting - Saturday 11th March 2023 - prior to SGC Championships Session (90min - with athlete talk)

Second Meeting - Saturday 24th June 2023 after Preparation Meet (TBC by Congress)

Third Meeting - Saturday 4th November after SGC Relay Championships (TBC by Congress)
